We decided we didn’t like the food. It was that stupid American way of eating -- creamed this or that -- and we didn’t have a choice, couldn’t make our own sandwiches or anything like that. Everyone ate lunch together, at the same time, and we proposed to have a strike. The student leadership at the time agreed with us and agreed to go along with it. On the day of the strike, we were scared and went to the drugstore and ate beforehand to have courage. We came in [to Hewitt dining hall], and at a certain point got up and walked out. After that, lunch had a lot of variety. And we could make our own sandwiches.
